CITY OF PELICAN RAPIDS PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES
October 28, 2009
The City of Pelican Rapids Park Board held its regular meeting at 8:00a.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2009,
Council Chambers, City Hall, 315 N Broadway. Board Members, Mel Zierke, David Gottenborg, Sandy Irey,
Mikalya Jensen, and Annie Wrigg were present. Sally Huynh, and Terra Fitzsimmons were absent. Denise
Magnusson, City Administrator Don Solga, Street and Park Superintendent Brian Olson also present.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mel Zierke 8:05 a.m.
Gottenborg made a motion to approve the October 26, 2009 minutes. Wrigg seconded the motion. Motion
Additions: Recycling bins, skate park (B.O.), soccer field, trash bins (M.Z.), Term limits (A.W.)
Gottenborg made a motion to approve the agenda. Fitzsimmons seconded the motion. Motion passed
Council Actions Since Last Meeting: none.
RECYCLE BINS : City Cleark did research on having recycling bins in the parks but limited to when festivities
are going on only. They will be placed where food is or as near as possible.
TRASH BINS: Wood is starting to show its age. General upkeep will happen when the weather warms up.
SKATE RINK : It’s up and ready to go. Advertise for help and once the weather cooperates will open when
possible. Discussion on adding more light. Discussion on investigating on updating the hockey boards.
SOCCER FIELD : Damage to the turf and possibly to the irrigation. We will have to wait until the irrigation is
turned on to find out.
VETERAN’S MEMORIAL PARK : Trees placed and the Lions club might take down the shelter. Gottenborg
will outline the gardens so that we can get estimates for materials. Irey will investigate benches so that they
match the rest of the benches in the community. Olson will get estimates for curb and asphalt. Gottenborg noted
that people have interest in donating plants. Irey worries about the maintenance Maybe we would get volunteers
to help with that. Zierke visited with the Senior Center to inform them of the plans. Additional discussion on
adding irrigation. Gottenborg will get estimates on pavers and irrigation. Irey will investigate picnic tables and
benches. Olson will work on lights, curb and asphalt.
WELCOME CHAIRS: Magnusson will go around and collect the chairs and put them in storage until spring.
She will return to the December meeting to talk about chairs further.
